Mantra

A mantra is a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that are considered capable of "creating transformation" such as a Spiritual transformation. A mantra can be used to balance the breath before meditation. Repeating a mantra during your meditation can induce a sense of peace and quietness of mind. Your thoughts instead of wandering are now focused on the powerful sound of mantra.

Mantra is best experienced out loud letting the sounds penetrate your being and surroundings. You may repeat a mantra silently to yourself if you need privacy or are physically somewhere where silence is expected. Some simple mantras for beginners are as follows:

OM/AUM- The sound of creation
AMEN- Verily, It is true, So be it
ALLAH- One of the many names of God
SO HUM – I am that

Choose one that you are most comfortable with using. Drag the sound out, for example, AMEN should be pronounced AH-MEN. Really use your voice. Bring the sound up from your diaphragm, forceful and strong. Let it resonate and surround you. I use SO HUM for breath balance myself. It is the sound the body makes when breathing. SO on the inhale. HUM on the exhale. This can be repeated silently and internally while taking slow deep breaths.

Try this for yourself. You will notice a sense of well-being and easy transition to a meditative state.

Namaste and Much Love,
Gina
